Lust Stories Movierulz

I watched Lust Stories on the weekend it dropped on Netflix back in 2018, and I remember it sparking more dinner-table debate than any Hindi film that year. Four of Bollywood’s biggest directors, each with a wildly different sensibility, taking on modern desire and relationships from a woman’s perspective was genuinely bold for mainstream Indian cinema.

If you searched for lust stories movierulz, here is what you need to know: this is a 2018 Hindi anthology film made exclusively for Netflix, and it remains one of the most talked-about Indian originals on the platform.

Story & Plot

The anthology contains four short films, each centred on a woman navigating love, lust and power in her own world: a college professor exploring a complicated bond with a younger student, a domestic help in Mumbai quietly involved with her employer’s son, a newlywed schoolteacher trying to fix the physical disconnect in her marriage, and a middle-aged woman trapped in a dull marriage who finds excitement elsewhere. The stories are not linked, but together they paint a frank picture of how desire shapes Indian relationships across class and age. No spoilers: each short is best experienced fresh.

Cast & Crew

Lust Stories is a 2018 Hindi-language anthology film directed by Karan Johar, Zoya Akhtar, Anurag Kashyap and Dibakar Banerjee, the same quartet behind 2013’s Bombay Talkies. The ensemble cast includes Radhika Apte, Bhumi Pednekar, Kiara Advani, Vicky Kaushal, Neha Dhupia, Manisha Koirala, Sanjay Kapoor, Jaideep Ahlawat, Akash Thosar and Neil Bhoopalam. It was produced by Ronnie Screwvala’s RSVP and Ashi Dua Sara’s Flying Unicorn Entertainment, and premiered on Netflix on 15 June 2018. My Review

I think this anthology is uneven but important. Zoya Akhtar’s segment, about the domestic help, is the standout for me: quiet, observant and heartbreaking without a single wasted scene. Karan Johar’s short is the crowd-pleaser, funny and surprisingly empathetic, and Kiara Advani is excellent in it. Anurag Kashyap’s segment is the most divisive. I found it raw and honest, though some viewers found it uncomfortable. Dibakar Banerjee’s story about the middle-aged couple is the weakest of the four for me, but Manisha Koirala acts it beautifully. Taken together, the film treats its women as real, desiring adults rather than symbols, which was rare in Hindi cinema then and honestly still is. Worth watching, though it is strictly for adults.

Lust Stories is frank, flawed and fascinating. Indian streaming grew up with this film.
